B\u00e0squet Girona continues its comprehensive project for another season, promoting healthy habits thanks to the collaboration with the Gasol Foundation \u2014foundation of brothers Pau and Marc Gasol, whose mission is to prevent childhood obesity\u2014 which will be integrated into the training of the base teams through the ALLEYOOP project.<\/p>\n
“The desire of B\u00e0squet Girona is to generate a positive impact on the entire community beyond the sport from which players, coaching staff and families can benefit,” says Marc Gasol, president of B\u00e0squet Girona and co-founder of the Gasol Foundation. “Within the framework of healthy habits, the Gasol Foundation’s experience and methodology make it an easy choice: the ALLEYOOP project allows us to promote the four pillars of healthy lifestyle habits (physical activity and sports, healthy eating, sleep and well-being emotional) naturally in training”. <\/p>\n
ALLEYOOP consists of a series of trainings, formations and activities aimed at introducing, improving and enhancing healthy habits through specific basketball activities, which are adapted to its dynamics. The Gasol Foundation started the program during the 2020-2021 academic year, in which 14 sports clubs from all over Spain, located in environments of socio-economic vulnerability, participated. In addition to training for coaches, the project includes workshops, materials and content aimed at families to introduce the importance of healthy habits to the players’ social environment.<\/p>\n

ALLEYOOP: Healthy workouts beyond the track<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n The methodology of the ALLEYOOP project, which includes the four pillars of healthy lifestyle habits (physical activity and sport, healthy eating, sleep and emotional well-being), allows to strengthen and improve holistically lifestyles of the participating players, the technical team and the families.<\/p>\n In the case of B\u00e0squet Girona, yesterday, Monday, December 12, a family workshop was held with the participation of Jaume Sorolla, a player on the club’s first team. During the workshop, Sorolla, the players and families of Girona’s base categories were able to enjoy activities focused on putting the focus on motivation towards basketball and the reduction of competitive pressure, an aspect in which families can accompany very well of the young players. <\/p>\n As part of the project, healthy training will also take place this month (on December 19 and 20) which will include common exercises in technical and tactical basketball work that will be enriched with messages about healthy habits. In this way, players have the opportunity to internalize the importance of following a healthy lifestyle through fun and play on the basketball court itself.<\/p>\n B\u00e0squet Girona, founded in 2014 as CEB Marc Gasol, already implemented the Gasol Foundation COACH+ project in the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 seasons, and participated in the Basket4All initiative, which was held in Fontajau. Since its foundation and under the presidency of Marc Gasol – also co-founder of the Gasol Foundation – it has maintained a clear commitment to society beyond the track, and this season it has started working on ODS 7 (Sustainable and non-polluting energy ), 13 (Climate Action) and 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions).<\/p>\n <\/p>\n About the Gasol Foundation<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), childhood obesity is a phenomenon that affects 124 million boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 19 worldwide. Specifically in Spain, 1 out of every 3 minors between 8 and 16 years of age is overweight or obese according to the Gasol Foundation’s PASSOS study.<\/p>\n Faced with this reality, the foundation was born in 2013 by the brothers Pau and Marc Gasol – NBA players and All Stars – with the aim of preventing childhood obesity in both Spain and the United States.
