In an informal meeting with journalists, Marc Gasol has analyzed the key moment that the Girona project is experiencing. During the conversation, strategic issues such as the modernization of Fontajau, the identity of the squad and the good time of the benches of the men’s and women’s first teams have been discussed. The president has focused on the stability of the club: “We are evolving and we must be patient. The process has accelerated a lot and our job now is to provide the necessary resources so that this structure is solid.” <\/p>\n\n

The Final Six: An award for the work of Spar Girona<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

Within this vision of a unitary club, Gasol has highlighted Spar Girona’s path to the European event in Zaragoza: “Being able to be at this height competing for European titles is a reflection and a reward for what has been done throughout the year. I really like that the team has been able to overcome wear and tear and it makes me happy to see them enjoy this moment”. According to the president, this unity is transferred to the stands: “I am moved to see the fans singing the B\u00e0squet Girona anthem at the end of a Spar game; they feel that we are all one”. <\/p>\n\n

Trust in sports leadership and team identity<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

Regarding the sports management, Gasol has confirmed his total confidence in the projects of Roberto \u00cd\u00f1iguez and Moncho Fern\u00e1ndez: “All parties are aligned to continue. We are very happy with both of them; they have fit perfectly into the club’s philosophy and have made us better.”<\/p>\n\n

This harmony is also sought in the commitment of the players who wear the club’s shirt. The president has highlighted the importance of having references who know the house: “It is essential that a player understands what it means to play for Girona and knows how to convey it. That is why we are looking for profiles like Sergi or Pep, who come with the desire to improve and add to the project.” <\/p>\n\n

The value of the grassroots and the talent from Girona<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

Regarding the lower categories, Gasol has been very satisfied with the social and training work carried out by Girona: “It comforts me a lot to see the base. We treat everyone equally as a service that we understand is necessary. Seeing the U18 competing in the Spanish Championship makes me very happy.”<\/p>\n\n

Sustainability, Europe and the future of Fontajau<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

Regarding the possible return of the men’s team to Europe, Gasol has been cautious but ambitious: “It would be a great prize, but they have to earn it on the court. Playing in Europe demands a lot from you; you have to be demanding but also consistent with our resources.” In this sense, economic viability is non-negotiable: “My obsession is to make a sustainable club. Generating budgets by producing losses would not be responsible.” <\/p>\n\n

To close the meeting, he pointed out the modernization of Fontajau as a key piece: “We need to bring the pavilion up to date to improve the space and have more things happen there besides basketball.
