Roberto Íñiguez’s team fought until the last second in Príncipe Felipe, making three three-pointers on the last possession to force overtime. Despite the defeat in the duel for the bronze medal, the Girona team leaves Zaragoza having competed head-to-head against the best teams on the continent and signing one of the brightest pages in the club’s history in the European elite.

With the initial exchange of blows, in which both Spar and Casademont made efforts to impose their rhythm (8-9), it was not until a 9-0 period —with Leite and Fingall’s three-pointers as the protagonists— that Zaragoza managed to distance itself (17-9). After the timeout, Spar intensified its defense and managed to get closer again thanks to a successful free throw from the line (17-15).

With Klara and Lola scoring to tie the game, the second chances allowed the Aragonese team to punish (21-19). Then, the success of Helena Oma and Hermosa put the maximum of the match in favor of the locals (30-23). This situation caused a great reaction from the Girona team: with a three-pointer from Chloe, shots from Bibby and Klara and another success from long distance by Carol, Spar took the lead (32-33). Although Hempe scored a hook, Guerrero punished again with a three to make it 34 to 36 at halftime.

After the locker room, Casademont surprised with three quick attacks to open a gap (43-36). However, Quevedo’s entry, Mariam’s first basket and Chloe’s triple tied the game at 44. With the score still tied, a new 6-0 run led by Leite and his transitions put the hosts back in the game (50-44). After Roberto’s timeout, Klara’s shot brought the Girona team closer, but Zaragoza’s dominance of the offensive rebound and aggressive defense reduced the deficit to nine points at the end of the quarter (57-48).

With ten minutes to go, an offensive rebound with a basket by Lola and a shot by Holm forced Cantero to stop the clash at 8:40 to conclude (57-52). Girona continued to row with Bibby and Mariam, but the actions of Gueye and Leite kept the pulse (64-57). With a triple by Quevedo, Cantero called for a timeout again at 1:31 to go (65-60). Then, a triple by Bibby ignited Príncipe Felipe, putting fear in the body of the home fans, but in a very nervous end, Spar missed the next action and Leite scored a free throw to make it 66 to 63. Íñiguez stopped the game with 16.6 seconds left to prepare for the last play. In the final moments, the Girona team had up to three opportunities from the three-point line to force overtime, but the ball did not want to go in and the match ended with a score of 66 to 63. Spar Girona thus closes a historic participation with fourth place in the EuroLeague Women.

Spar Girona has ended its adventure in the EuroLeague Women Final Six with a deserved fourth place after falling in a heart-stopping final against the host, Casademont Zaragoza (66-63).
