Básquet Girona received today the visit of Río Breogán in Fontajau. The Galicians have arrived at the game in 10th position, with a record of 4 wins and 5 losses. The Reds, on the other hand, were looking to get back to winning ways in front of their home crowd.

Aíto García Reneses’ men felt comfortable on the floor from the start, with a very intense start. The team was 10 points up on the scoreboard, forcing Velko Mrsić to stop the game. The first quarter ended with a 21-14 score that marked the positive trend of the locals.

Already in the second period, the visitors found a way to score and overturned the entry marker with a good partial. The match was adjusted with a few minutes left before the break, with Río Breogán more successful in field goals (62% to a local 47% in Ecuador). The third act started with a score of 34-36, with several alternatives of leadership on the scoreboard. The success was equalized in both corners of the court, and the locals reached the last 10 minutes with a 3-point advantage.

The team continued to find solutions in attack, but the Galicians played their best minutes at the end, when they linked a partial 0-11. The Girona team failed to break this dynamic and ended up falling 66-73.

Basketball Girona’s next game will be on Sunday, December 11, at 12:30 p.m., against Valencia Basket in La Fonteta.

STATEMENTS

Aíto García Reneses: ‘It was a game that Breogán planned very well. We haven’t had the ability to beat them and we have to accept this reality. We have a number of good and bad things. It will take time to improve the bad ones.’
