The road to the play-off, what options are there?

With two days left until the conclusion of the promotion phase, Básquet Girona (9th, 9V-11D) has mathematical options to enter the play-offs that would contest the second ranked against the fifth and the third against the fourth. The senior could be placed in fourth position, but for that a series of results from the rivals ahead of him in the table needs to happen. These are Aquimisa Laboratorios-Queso Zamorano, Basket Navarra, Marin Enxe Peixe Galego and Zornotza Saskibaloi Taldea.

The senior’s classification mainly depends on him winning the two remaining games against Aquimisa Laboratorios-Queso Zamorano, this Saturday in Fontajau (8 p.m.), and Juaristi ISB away. The first rival has an advantage of 19 points in the basket average because in the first leg it ended with 87-68 on the scoreboard. This means that, should they be tied on the balance sheet, Zamora would finish ahead in the table.

Basketball Girona’s paths to the play-off are divided into two, according to the results it obtains in the next two games: if it wins both games or if  win the first and lose the second. 

If he wins the next two games, he would need: Aquimisa Laboratorios-Queso Zamorano (5th, 10V-10D) to lose by a minimum difference of 20 points in Fontajau, to recover the basket average . Or, that the senior won it on Saturday in Fontajau – beyond the difference in points – and that the team from Castile and León lost the next game against CB Almansa. Basket Navarra (6th, 10V-10D) should lose the next two games (against HLA Alicante and CB Villarrobledo) because the Navarra team has the average in favor and the senior could only surpass it based on the number of victories.

Marin Ence Peixe Galego (7th, 9V-11D) should lose one of the two remaining games (against Isover Basket Azuqueca and HLA Alicante) because it has the average in favor but, unlike Basket Navarra, shares a balance of results with the Girona people (9V-11D). This scenario also happens with Zornotza Saskibaloi Taldea, which, at least, should lose one of the two results by having the average in favor. The Basque team will face Isover Basket Azuqueca, the leader of the category, and Real Murcia Baloncesto.

Even if these scenarios lead the senior to occupy fifth place and access the play-offs, there is also the possibility that it will be ranked fourth if all these results are given and the team from Murcia, who the team from Girona has won on average , loses the next two games. This condition would only be fulfilled if Zornotza loses against Azuqueca and Murcia wins.  

In the event that the senior team wins the first match and loses the second, against Juaristi ISB, the mathematical classification options remain valid but are reduced and more complicated. The senior would have to beat Zamora with a minimum margin of 20 points and that they also lose the last game against CB Villarrobledo. In the same way, Basket Navarra, Marin Ence Peixe Galego and Zornotza Saskibaloi Taldea should lose the next two games because the three teams have the average in their favor and the senior could only surpass them in the table by obtaining a higher number of victories
