Meet the senior players (III): David Cuéllar

Formed between CB Mollerussa and Lleida Bàsquet, David Cuéllar (Benavent de Segrià, 1997) has arrived at Bàsquet Girona after three seasons at Fuenlabrada. In the last two, he played in the subsidiary although he also participated in two matches with the first team, in the ACB. In addition to being focused on basketball, he is also studying Tourism at the UNED (National University of Distance Education). -How do you feel in the club?

“It’s an ambitious project and I wanted to be a part of it. I’m very comfortable with everything that surrounds it, both the city and the club itself. It’s a place where you can work very well and take advantage of the hours to train and improve. In addition, a very important aspect that I have noticed is that, within the club, they treat us as players, but also as people. They help us in everything we need and make it easy for us.”

-How has the presence of Quim Costa on the bench made you or made you improve?

“As a group, indisputably in the collective matter, by being able to all work as a block. It is a complicated aspect to achieve, but I think we have made a very positive evolution since we started training. Individually, apart from a lot of technical and tactical aspects like reading in match situations, I think it’s helped me a lot with the mentality, the head. And it’s an aspect where I’d like to be even more consistent.”

-How are you seeing the team?

“Building a new team, starting from scratch, is not easy, but our evolution is positive. Obviously, there are certain aspects in which we need to progress and which will be important in the rest of the season, such as communication on the court. But the team as a group is amazing. They’re all great people and we do a lot of work. That’s important as well as transferring that to the track.”

A place in Girona to get lost in:  The cathedral and its surroundings, as well as certain places on the banks of the river Ter.

A current basketball player you identify with: Adam Hanga.

The last book you read : ” 11 rings”, by Phil Jackson. I am currently reading the fourth part of “Percy Jackson”, by Rick Riordan.

One  hobbies :  The cinema, enjoying family time when we see each other and watching basketball games.

A life motto : From the moment I saw “The Pursuit of Happiness,” I was stuck with the line that Will said to his son: ‘Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do something. If you have a dream, keep it.

A sport, apart from basketball : Tennis or paddle tennis, although I play it very rarely.

The best basketball player in history :  Kobe Bryant.

A dream to fulfill : Being a professional basketball player, enjoying the process of achieving it and being able to share it with the people I love the most. I’m not going to give up.

A team : I’m not a fan of any team. I enjoy watching my favorite sport, basketball, regardless of the colors.  

A film : “A possible dream [The Blind Side]”. I also love watching Marvel movies and the Transformers saga.
