The City Council of Castell d’Aro, Platja d’Aro and S’Agaró and Bàsquet Girona take another step in their institutional, sporting and promotional collaboration with the creation of the Platja d’Aro Basketball Tournament, with a first edition this year 2025 with a double date with the pre-season matches Spar Girona-Santfeliuenc (Thursday 11 September · 7 pm) and Bàsquet Girona-Barça (Friday 12 September · 8.30 pm) at the Palau d’Esports i Congressos de Platja d’Aro (tickets and subscriptions on sale soon on the site www.basquetgirona.com).

A unique opportunity to enjoy the first training matches of the first women’s and men’s teams of the entity in two consecutive days, which will have the opportunity to present the new signings and incorporations. At the same time, the public will be able to enjoy all the tourist services – commerce, leisure, catering, accommodation, etc. – and the natural environment of the municipality at the end of the summer. An initiative that reinforces Castell d’Aro, Platja d’Aro as a reference destination in the sports field, with the capacity to host reference events in this field, such as the Spanish Championship of Vert Skateboarding and Roller Freestyle (August 30 and 31), the 4th Open Water Platja d’Aro (August 30) or the 4th Senior Women’s Tennis Championship of Catalonia (September 3 to 7) or the Open Maxxis Natura of BTT (September 28), among others.

The synergies between the council and Bàsquet Girona were established in 2020, and since then have been embodied in advertising and promotional actions at the Fontajau Pavilion and in the clubs’ official media; and also with initiatives in the municipality with various formats: pre-season training and matches, creation of a basketball campus for children and young people, presentation of official equipment or the 3×3 section in the municipality, visits by players to the Casal Esportiu or an environmental action on World Climate Change Day.

At the same time, the creation of the tournament keeps alive the long relationship of Castell d’Aro, Platja d’Aro and S’Agaró with professional and top-level basketball. For more than 15 years, several teams have chosen the municipality and its facilities to hold training camps and matches, including UMMC Ekaterinburg, Barça CBS Joventut, Manresa, Menorca, Gran Canaria, Alba de Berlin, Dynamo and Zenit de Sant Petesburg, Kiev, Donetsk, Barça; and of course Spar Girona and Bàsquet Girona. Also several training selections of the Spanish Federation, the absolute men’s team of Angola, or the women’s team of the United States in their preparation for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
