Hughes played for the Wright State Raiders from 2015 to 2019. In his final college season, he averaged 9.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game, shooting 75% from the field and 33% from three-point range.
After his university days, he began his professional career in Europe with Worcester Wolves in the English league. Later, he signed for Club Deportivo La Roda, in the LEB Plata. In the 2021/22 season he played in the LEB Or with ICG Força Lleida and, later, he played a season with Estudiantes de Madrid. In the 2023/24 season he played with the
Hamburg Towers of the German league, where he also played in the EuroCup.
In his last season before joining Bàsquet Girona, with Betis in the Primera FEB, he averaged 16.3 points, 4 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game, with 78.5% free throws and 50% three-pointers, playing an average of 28.7 minutes per game. He also participated in the play-offs and the Final Four for promotion to the ACB league, where he averaged 21.4 points, 5.
rebounds and 2.7 assists in 29.5 minutes.
The American player was selected by the United States Basketball Association (USBA) on
2019 to play with the US under-22 team in an international tournament held in China.
