First defeat of the season

Spar Girona | Saturday, 01 November 2025

Spar Girona fell to Casademont Zaragoza ( 77 to 72 ) in a vibrant, intense and high-level duel, which was decided in the last moments. The Girona team showed enormous dedication and commitment, reacting after being fourteen points behind and having possession to tie in the final stretch. Casademont resolved the match from the personnel line, in a final where Spar competed until the last second.

With Spar Girona moving the ball quickly and looking for spaces to attack from long range, the Girona team imposed the first set of 1 to 6 on the scoreboard, highlighting Carol’s triple and Klara’s penetration. That said, Fingall and Bankolé’s long range points tied the game at 6. Once again, the Girona team gathered strength to impose their rhythm thanks to Jocyte’s five consecutive points (8 to 13). But, in a three and nothing, Hempe’s triple and Mariona’s 2+1 put the Zaragoza team ahead for the first time on the scoreboard (14 to 13). The home advantage did not intimidate our team, who maintained the defensive pressure to attack in transition, scoring Quevedo from a three, López on a counterattack and Jocyte from mid-range (14 to 20). Casademont came close through Hempe, but Jocyte’s free throws closed the quarter (18 to 22).

The home team stepped up their defense in the early stages of the second quarter, causing two consecutive turnovers for the Girona team. In addition, despite Jocyte’s good pivoting, Mawuli’s shot and Mariona’s points brought Casademont to within one point, ending the game (23 to 24). Coulibaly scored at will, but Leite’s free throw and Flores’ basket tied the game at 26. Bankolé and Jocyte then took on the offensive responsibility for their respective teams, with Ornella putting Casademont ahead 35 to 33 and Nerea scoring a touchdown to put the home team ahead (37 to 33). The timeout sought to reactivate the team, but Ornella punished them again, scoring her thirteenth point (39 to 33). Quevedo’s final triple put the Girona team just three points behind, but Voráčková’s transition entry made the home team +5 (43 to 38).

Leite’s two baskets and Hempe’s points put the game’s lead at 49-40. That said, Canella’s organization and Amihere’s points put Spar within just two points (49-47). But, again, in a three-and-none, Casademont imposed a 7-0 run to open up the gap (56-47). Although Spar Girona increased their defensive pressure, the ball movement and the home team’s accuracy extended their lead, with Zaragoza reaching +14 at the end of the third quarter (65-51).

With Pueyo converting from mid-range and setting the game’s lead (67 to 51), the match entered a period of inaccuracies where Spar Girona took advantage to close the gap, highlighting Quevedo’s triple, Coulibaly’s points and Amihere’s action under the basket (67 to 59). With Spar on fire, Cantero stopped the clash, and the match became a constant exchange of baskets where the gap was maintained (71 to 63). Girona’s insistence, however, bore fruit: Jocyte’s basket and Juste’s assist for Mariam put the team within four points (71 to 67). Cantero stopped the match again with less than two minutes to go, and Mariona scored from mid-range. That said, Quevedo did not forgive from long distance and, then, scored from the personal to put Spar at only one point (73 to 72). A few seconds before the end, Leite got the hot ball, entering the basket and scoring the action, stopping Íñiguez from the game with only 36 seconds left (75 to 72). Casademont’s perimeter defense forced Quevedo to penetrate, failing the entry and giving up the rebound. With the foul and the bonus, Mariona did not forgive from the personal, closing the game at 77 to 72.
