Spar Girona faces a new commitment from LF Endesa this Saturday with a trip to Mendizorrotza to face Araski.

The Girona team comes into the match after losing midweek in Fontajau to Galatasaray in European competition, but with the confidence of having added an important victory last weekend, also at home, against La Penya (68-64) .

About the opponent

Araski currently occupies the penultimate position in the standings , in the relegation places, with a balance of 5 wins and 11 losses. In this context, the duel is of vital importance for the Basque team, which will seek to strengthen itself in Mendizorrotza. Although in the first round Spar Girona won by a clear 90-49, it is a deceptive result and difficult to repeat on a demanding track like the one in Vitoria.

The team led by Made Urieta stands out especially for the weight of its international players. Canadian Samantha Hill is the team’s main offensive reference, with an average of 12.2 points per game. In the direction, point guard Lahtinen sets the pace of the game, while in the outside positions Toussaint (9.6 points per game with 37.7% three-point shooting) and Mollenhauer (9.8 points and 37.9% three-point shooting) stand out. In the interior, Jourdain provides a physical presence with 7.9 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.

The Spar Girona

After the European commitment, the Girona team has prepared the duel with the aim of scoring again away from Fontajau in an always demanding trip. The team faces the match with the desire to maintain regularity in the league in a calendar with highly demanding matches.

Roberto Íñiguez explained that “Araski has changed with respect to the players’ role” and noted that “for us, Mendizorrotza is always very complicated”. The coach added that “they stick to what they do during the season in home matches” and that “they always compete with the big teams, with the feeling of having nothing to lose and knowing that they are fighting”. In this sense, he highlighted that “they are a good team and that, at home, it is always very difficult”.
