Fenerbahçe arrives as the most in-form team in Europe, with an overall record of 11 wins and 1 loss in the EuroLeague Women and first place in Group F. The Turkish team has a top-level squad, a true constellation of stars in which Emma Meesseman stands out, with 14.6 points, 6 rebounds and 19.9 rating per game, and Rupert, an offensive reference with an average of 15.2 points, in addition to top international players such as Kayla McBride, Megan Gustafson, Bec Allen, Gabby Williams, Natasha Billings and Julie Allemand, among others.
The Turkish club has also recently announced the addition of Breanna Stewart to compete in the Final Six, although she will not participate in this qualifier, in a move that further strengthens the rival’s potential and demonstrates the ambition of the project.
The Girona team comes to the duel after winning the league against Cadí la Seu and having finished the group stage of the EuroLeague Women in second place in Group E, after losing in the last match on the court of Galatasaray.
In the preview of the match, Roberto Íñiguez explained that the team faces the knockout stage with ambition and competitiveness, pointing out that “we have nothing to lose. We have won the prize, but we want to compete. We have earned the right to dream and, without excuses, because now we don’t have Marta Canella, so the thought must be that we are not finished”, and he also showed himself convinced that “we will stand up to them. It is true that a team like that can put you in your place, but we will see. They have everything. We know where we are going. We have to enjoy and be ourselves”.
Regarding Marta Canella’s condition, the coach explained that “with respect to Marta, she is continuing with her process. We will take it easy; she will set her own time.”
