Spar Girona | Friday, 06 March 2026

Spar Girona lost to Casademont Zaragoza 78-81 in Fontajau. The Girona team trailed for much of the game after a visiting half in the third quarter, but the reaction in the second half led Roberto Íñiguez’s team to tie the game in the final seconds. A three-pointer by Fingall with 1.4 seconds left ended up deciding the match in favor of the Aragonese team.

Coulibaly’s first action was quickly answered by Fingall (3-3) and then the two interior players of Casademont, Hempe and Fingall, differentiated the Aragonese team (5-12). Juste scored but missed the extra point (7-13) and Vorackova’s triple and Pueyo’s action led Roberto to stop the game at the halfway point of the first quarter (7-17). The Girona team entered the game with Bibby’s triples, but Vorackova’s baskets maintained the visiting team’s advantage (18-26).

The offensive dynamic was sustained at the start of the second quarter and Flores’ triple set the game’s high (23-31). Having said that, Jocyte took over the offensive responsibility of the Girona team (13 points), bringing Spar closer on the scoreboard and setting Fontajau on fire (32-35). Klara then responded to Flores’ entry and Cantero stopped the clash (34-37). The reaction was not long in coming and, with a 2-8 lead, Íñiguez responded to the timeout (36-45). Shortly before halftime, Fingall scored under the basket and, then, Bibby did not forgive from the personal line (38-47).

The change of pace reactivated the Girona army, bringing Bibby and Mariam closer to ours (47-50), but, again, Vorackova converted 7 points in a row to place the +10 (47-57). In addition, Gueye’s inside dominance set the maximum of the match, certifying Casademont a 2 to 15 set (49-65). With Roberto’s timeout, Jocyte connected again with a three (52-65). Gueye punished again under the basket and Jocyte replicated the play to score from three (55-67), closing Bankolé the fourth from the personal line (55-68).

The difference did not intimidate our team, who, at the pace of Carter and Juste, reduced the gap (63-72). With the crowd pressing, defensive actions led Klara and Bibby to score under the basket, stopping Cantero from the clash with 5:28 left (67-72). Wanting more, the Girona team came within three points with the passes from Carter and Klara and the shots from Bibby (73-76). Gueye punished again from below, but Carter’s triple put the score at -2 (76-78). That said, with 1:32 left, the lights said enough, stopping the game for a few minutes. With the game underway again, both teams failed to make any moves and Jocyte’s last play ended with a foul, but Roberto stopped the game with 4.1 seconds left (76-78). As soon as the play began, Zaragoza fouled Coulibaly, who scored the free throws, and Cantero tied the game (78-78). Fingall was released, and the visiting player did not miss the triple, stopping Roberto with 1.4 seconds left (78-81). Bibby’s short triple did not go in and Casademont took the victory 78 to 81.
