Girona Basketball has equaled the record for three-pointers but has fallen just short against Real Madrid

First Team | Saturday, 28 March 2026

Girona Basketball played a high-level offensive game, especially from the perimeter, finishing with a spectacular 13 of 22 three-pointers and equaling their all-time record of 17 three-pointers in a single game. Despite this high-scoring display and a constant effort throughout the 40 minutes, the Girona team was unable to avoid a narrow defeat against a Real Madrid team that managed key moments better.

The first half was a constant exchange of blows. The match started with a 0-5 lead in favor of the Madrid team, but Girona reacted quickly with a 7-0 run that turned the score around. However, Real Madrid responded with a 4-13 run to regain control. In the second quarter, the home team came out strong with an 8-0 lead (21-22), but the Whites again imposed their rhythm with a 0-9 lead. Girona did not give up and, with a 6-0 run and five consecutive points from Livingston, they stayed in the match, reaching the break with a tight 32-37 lead.

In the second half, Girona showed their best side. An initial triple by Livingston, followed by another by the same player, lit up the arena, and a triple by Geben tied the score (45-45). Otis also joined the party from the perimeter, but a 5-15 run by Real Madrid opened up a gap again. However, the Girona team closed the third quarter with a 7-3 lead, led by Vildoza’s points. In the final period, the Madrid team seemed to be on the scoreboard with a 5-10 lead (65-76), but Girona believed in themselves again: triples by Needham (5 of 5) and Maric’s actions adjusted the score to 82-85. The team came within just one point on two occasions, with triples from Otis (90-91) and Pep (93-94), but ultimately Real Madrid withstood the final push and took the win.
