Bàsquet Girona got off to an electric start in Fontajau, posting an almost perfect first half that broke the club’s all-time scoring record in a half. With a devastating start (22-11) marked by an absolute total from the 6.75 line (6/6 triples), the Girona team overcame a Casademont Zaragoza that was unable to stop the local storm. Absolute dominance of the rebound (11-3) and surgical precision from Needham, Otis and Mark increased the difference to 30 points (54-24). With twelve converted three-pointers and brilliant team play, the red-and-white team retired to the locker room with a resounding 58-32, falling just two points short of their best all-time mark in a half.

In the second half, the script changed radically and Zaragoza took advantage of the turnovers and lack of local accuracy to get back into the match. A 0-13 away run alarmed Girona, who lost control of the rebound and the rhythm of the match and were overcome by the Aragonese push, closing the third quarter with a 70-60 lead after an overall 14-28 run. Despite the suffering and the reduction in points, the team led by Moncho Fernández did not lose their pulse in the decisive period. In the last quarter, a 6-0 run sealed the definitive victory, leaving the score at a final 90-81 that rewarded the incredible aim of the first half and the capacity for resistance in the tense minutes.
