Bàsquet Girona and EUSES have presented the new Diploma of Specialization in Sustainability and the Sports Industry, an innovative training course that was created with the aim of preparing professionals capable of facing the sustainability challenges that mark the present and future of the sports industry.

The new degree, jointly promoted by EUSES, Bàsquet Girona and the Fundació Universitat de Girona: Innovation and Training, is framed in a context in which sustainability has ceased to be a complementary issue to become a central element of sports management. Aspects such as reducing the environmental impact of events, social responsibility, governance, sustainable mobility or the relationship with sponsors and interest groups are part of the new demands of the sector.

The diploma offers applied training connected to professional reality. Students will work on practical cases linked to the sports industry, participate in visits to reference entities and share experiences with active professionals from leading organizations in the sector.

The training will be delivered in a blended learning format between October 2026 and June 2027, with a limited offer of 30 places. The program is aimed primarily at graduates and professionals in physical activity and sports sciences, sports management, business administration and management, environmental sciences and other areas related to the sports industry.

The curriculum will address the different dimensions of sustainability—environmental, social and economic—as well as aspects related to governance, project management, monitoring systems, corporate social responsibility, sustainable sponsorship and innovation applied to sport.

With this initiative, Bàsquet Girona and EUSES reinforce their commitment to specialized training and the generation of knowledge in strategic areas for the future of sport, contributing to the preparation of a new generation of professionals capable of leading the sustainable transformation of the sector.

Statements from Claudia Batlle, CSR Manager of Bàsquet Girona:

“The collaboration between Bàsquet Girona, EUSES and the UdG Foundation was born very naturally, based on the shared idea that sustainability is already a central challenge within the world of sports and that training was needed that gave a real response.

At Bàsquet Girona, this need is detected from the daily practice of the club and the sports sector. EUSES provides all the academic and training part, with experience in health, sports and higher education. And the UdG Foundation helps to make this connection between the university world and the professional environment possible.

From here, the collaboration arises very organically: joining efforts to create a useful diploma, applied and connected to the reality of the current sports sector, with the aim of training professionals prepared to drive this transformation towards sustainability.”

Statements by Adrià Martín, director of the Degree in CAFE:

“The collaboration between EUSES, Bàsquet Girona and the UdG Foundation stems from a shared concern: the need for the sports industry to incorporate sustainability as a strategic and cross-cutting element. From EUSES, as a university center specializing in health and sports, we detected a growing demand for professional profiles capable of understanding the new environmental, social and governance challenges within the sports sector. At the same time, Bàsquet Girona was already promoting initiatives linked to sustainability and social responsibility from a very applied and real perspective. The third actor, the UdG Foundation, provides the academic and university framework necessary to convert this experience into a rigorous, innovative postgraduate training proposal connected to the current needs of the labor market.

The combination of the three institutions allows us to combine academic knowledge, professional experience and direct application within the sports industry.

This postgraduate degree aims to train professionals capable of leading sustainable transformation within the sports sector. We want students to understand that sustainability is not only an environmental issue, but also a social, economic and governance issue. For this reason, the program addresses aspects such as the sustainable management of sports facilities and events, mobility, responsible sponsorship, corporate social responsibility and generating positive impact in communities.

In addition, this specialization seeks to bring the university closer to the professional reality of the sports industry. The fact of having active professionals, real cases and visits to reference entities allows students to acquire practical skills and an updated vision of an area that will have increasing weight in the future of sports.
