Spar Girona lost in Sant Andreu de Llavaneres to Hozono Global Jairis in the last test before facing the Catalan League (66-71). The Girona team dominated much of the match thanks to their outside play and good teamwork, but the visitors’ reaction in the last quarter ended up deciding the match in a heart-stopping final.
The duel started with a lot of parity on the court, but the Girona team broke the tie in the final stretch of the first quarter thanks to the success of the outside, closing a period that culminated with a triple by Camilión on the horn (22-12). In the second period, Conner’s inspired moment and good team play allowed them to widen the advantage to 33-19. Despite a central stretch with inaccuracies on the part of both teams, another triple by Bulgak and a final action by Camilión herself sent the game to halftime with a solid 38-24.
In the second half, the game had a hard time getting started, going from less to more, a circumstance that Jairis took advantage of to close the gap and get within ten points at the end of the third quarter (51-41). In the last period, the visiting team’s push by Prieto and Massey gradually adjusted the score until turning it around with a minute and a half left (61-63). An emergency three-pointer by Camilión tied the game at 66 with less than a minute to go, but another outside hit by Prieto with 19 seconds left and Massey’s final shot ended up giving the Murcians the victory.
