Defeat against Emlat Konut

The Girona team fails to win in Fontajau and will play in the second continental competition.

SPAR Girona lost this Wednesday in Fontajau to Emlat Konut (69-81) and has been left on the doorstep of the EuroLeague Women group stage. After a high-intensity duel and alternations in the first half, the Girona team’s mistake and the Turkish dominance in the second half have differentiated Konut to prevail. Despite the epic final attempt, the Girona team has ended up losing and will play in the EuroCup Women.

After a first quarter of exchanges where SPAR Girona started with an 8 to 4 lead, a 0-11 away half forced the Girona team to row until the outside hits from Conner, Carol Guerrero and Juana Camilión kept the team in the game (16-19). In the second half, Kunaiyi supported the visitors’ aspirations, while the hits from Bulgak and Marta kept SPAR Girona in the game until the break (36-39).

In the second half, the Turkish team imposed its rhythm with a devastating third quarter led by Kunaiyi (19 points) and Lelik (26 points), taking advantage of Girona’s lack of accuracy to open a maximum gap (46-65). In the last period, SPAR Girona reacted from small-ball work with points from Iyana, Conner and Quevedo to cut the difference to 61-70, but two three-pointers from Allen in the final stretch stopped the local epic attempt. With this defeat (69-81), Roberto Íñiguez’s team did not get a ticket to the EuroLeague Women and will play in the EuroCup Women this season.
