Spar Girona has added a characterful victory on the court of Movistar Estudiantes ( 79 to 88 ) after turning around a match that had become complicated in the first half. The team has signed a second half of high defensive level, breaking the rhythm of the Madrid team and imposing itself with a choral game, vertical and successful from the triple. The negative note of the match has been the injury of Laura Quevedo, who has had to withdraw before the break, in a duel where the Girona team has been able to overcome all the difficulties to take a weighty victory in the LF Endesa.
Erratic on both sides of the court, Estudiantes, led by Bühner, imposed a 9-0 run. Íñiguez quickly stopped it. The first baskets came from Amihere and Coulibaly, but the dominance of the offensive rebound, the accuracy of the outside and the leadership of Bühner widened the local margin (25-12).
Lola’s free throw and the basket from mid-range put Spar within ten points (25 to 15). The worst moment of the match soon came in the form of an injury, with Quevedo withdrawing from the match. The Girona team found the strength to stay in the match and two consecutive three-pointers by Carol left us with five points (28 to 23). The match became a constant exchange of baskets and, with a transition by Guerrero, we were only two points behind (36 to 34), but an 8 to 0 run once again imposed the home team’s +10 (44 to 34). Coulibaly slowed down the momentum, and the match returned to an offensive exchange until 51 to 41.
A Spar Girona with a much more defensive character came out for everything in the second half, breaking the rhythm of the locals. A situation that the Girona team took advantage of to get closer from the triple, imposing a partial of 8 to 15 (59 to 56). The timeout by Estu did not slow down our rhythm and we continued to row until we took the lead for the first time in the match with a triple by Jocyte (59 to 61). In addition, the team’s choral and vertical play has gone beyond the Madrid team, reaching the end of the third quarter with a +10 (61 to 71).
Jocyte and Canella struck early in the first attacks of the last quarter, forcing Antonio to stop the game to find a reaction (61 to 75). Estudiantes’ response came in the offensive section, but it was not enough to stop our success, turning the final stretch into another exchange of baskets between the two teams (74 to 83). Íñiguez called a timeout to manage the last two minutes and, in the subsequent play, Carol converted a key triple (84 to 86). Finally, Spar prevailed over the Madrid team by 79 to 88.
