An epic comeback

A magnificent final stretch of the game by the senior allows him to overcome Ibersol CB Tarragona (69-71) and link the fifth victory in the CA group of the EBA League

The Girona Basketball senior couldn’t say goodbye to the competition in 2017 in a better way, obtaining the fifth consecutive victory (69-71) on the Ibersol CB Tarragona court. A victory that almost seemed impossible when, in the middle of the last part, the locals had a substantial advantage (65-51 at 4:30 of the end). But, pressing all over the court and finding the offensive fluency, the team led by Quim Costa has been cutting the gap until they finally turned the tables. A result that, combined with the defeat of Vive El Masnou Basketball, places the Girona leaders in the CA group of the EBA League for the best difference in points. Both have the same record (9-3).

In a match with a lot of atmosphere at El Serrallo – the Tarragona players took advantage of it to present their teams – the staging was splendid, with Básquet Girona imposing their rhythm and dominating (11-19, 7′) . Little by little, however, Ibersol CB Tarragona has been adjusting the defense and the blunder in the visitor’s triple (1/12 at the end of the second quarter) has helped them level the forces at half-time (37-35) . The dynamic would continue on the way back to the dressing room and the team led by Quim Costa could not find a way to recover the thread or find continuity in their game. This has caused the Blues, who were ultimately unable to count on pivot David Mesa, to open a +14 hole. Then came the reaction of pride at the end, turned into victory by the local mistakes in the shot in the last minute. The last of them, a few seconds before the end of time, to force extra time. The team has not yet been able to count on Raimon Carrasco and Jaime Llano, and this has allowed junior Eduard Ramos to get minutes again.

The seniors’ next game, the last of the first round, will be against CB Quart Germans Cruz, on January 13 in Fontajau (7:30 p.m.).
