| Saturday, 13 May 2023

Básquet Girona, 16th with 10 wins and 22 defeats, came out with the obligation to win to ensure permanent permanence. On the other hand, Casademont Zaragoza, 13th with 12-20, came into the match with the aim of avoiding the already achieved relegation.

The team from Girona has been erratic in attack and in defense has allowed easy penetrations and second plays, which have resulted in a 10-2 score in the first 5 minutes. After a timeout, the players increased intensity on the court and reduced the deficit, ending the first period 17-15.

The improvement in the game of the Aíto team has been increasing and has helped to turn the score around with 4 minutes left before the break. The game ended with a tight 35-33, but a good start by Porfirio Fisac’s men increased the difference to 7 points.

Básquet Girona reacted and played, probably, their best minutes and achieved a score of 0-9. With quick penetrations and with a 12/13 from the free throw, the team got back into the game. The last quarter started with a score of 55-57, but the maximum advantage of 10 points was quickly achieved thanks to the outside shot (55-65). The locals, in just 4 minutes, responded with another great half-time to equalize the game again, which ended in overtime.

The Girona team took the initiative on the scoreboard and a basket by Jaume Sorolla with 5 tenths to go seemed to certify the goal but a foul at the end of time and Hlinasson’s success from the free kick re-established the score and has taken the match to the second overtime. In the second extra time, Girona was better in all phases of the game and achieved a partial 3-11 that sealed the victory and the stay at Príncipe Felipe de Zaragoza (88-95).

The next match, and last of the season for Básquet Girona, will be against Cazoo Baskonia in Fontajau, with a date yet to be determined.
