To achieve this, the basketball team and the Institut Català de Recerca de l’Aigua (ICRA-CERCA) have signed a collaboration agreement that will allow the Bàsquet Girona area to be enhanced. In this sense, both institutions have complementary purposes in areas of application of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that guide the implementation of the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations.

To formalize the agreement, the management of Bàsquet Girona and the players of the first team, Jaume Sorolla and Pato Garino, today visited the ICRA-CERCA H2O Building, located in the Science and Technology Park of the University of Girona,  During the meeting they were accompanied by the management and the team of ICRA-CERCA researchers, they were able to see first hand the research carried out at the Institute and visited some of its laboratories, such as the river channels artificial plants or the hydroponic pilot plant for crop growth.

ICRA-CERCA has begun to study the water consumption of the Fontajau pavilion. The research work includes the realization of an inventory, the control and diagnosis of the water used by the equipment, as well as the possibilities for improvement. In addition, the Institute will implement its tool, Innowat , a technology developed within the European project R3water , which allows you to control the energy expenditure of the installations and which has already been applied in waste water treatment stations and in various municipal equipment, to reduce costs.

For Oriol Gutiérrez, researcher in the Technology and Evaluation area of ICRA-CERCA and promoter of the agreement: “It was about generating synergies between local agents who share a common interest in the responsible consumption of resources and commitment to sustainability.”

Stefi Batlle, head of communications and marketing at Bàsquet Girona, commented that “the addition of ICRA-CERCA to the club’s project is a very important boost in order to reach the optimal levels of sustainability, one of the aspects in which it works the club since its beginnings.”
