Básquet Girona stumbles in Fontes do Sar against CAB Obradoiro in the third day of the league (89-63). The Galician team dominated from start to finish with a great defense, good offensive rhythm and a great success in the triple (15). Marc Gasol best Girona player (21 rating).

Although the initial basket was Girona’s, a 17-6 run made the first quarter local. Moncho Fernández’s men have done a great defensive exercise and this has allowed them to run more easily in a Girona attack that did not manage to have regularity. Blazevic’s good performance inside (10 rating) and outside success (5/9 in triples) have capitalized on the first ten minutes against a Girona that was in specific actions (29-13).

A partial 2-13 from Girona has changed the face of the game and has placed the visitors just five points behind the rival (31-26) after a collapse by Eric Vila, Girona’s top scorer in the first half along with Marco (9 points). A home run of 17-8 in seven minutes, from the defense and with two consecutive Galician three-pointers to close the quarter, broke the good dynamics of the Reds, who reached the break eleven points behind (48-37).

Pato Garino’s first two points with Básquet Girona were answered by two Galician triples. The defense (10 Girona points in the third period) and the outside shot was Obradoiro’s best weapon in the second half as well, transforming almost the same that he had generated in the first (7 three-pointers for a total of 15 in the game ). The Girona team has revived even though the difference has been increasing in the last ten minutes, giving more dynamism in the offensive movement and finding success with regularity. The inspired Obradoiro closed the game with a triple (89-63).

Post-match rating:

“Congratulations to Obradoiro who has played a good game with a very good spirit. Logically we have not been up to it. We have not been able to do what we should, some due to their effectiveness, others due to our own mistakes rather big.”
