Famila Schio has defeated Spar Girona in the match corresponding to day 4 of phase 2 of the EuroLeague Women, played in Italy. In a demanding and fast-paced match, the Girona team competed for many minutes against a solid rival at home, but the local team’s success in key moments and control of the offensive rebound ended up deciding the final score (85-74).
Great start for Spar Girona in the first four minutes, and the fact is that Shepard’s dominance under the paint did not intimidate our team, who showed good attacking skills thanks to Carol’s six points and Chloe and Quevedo’s points (6-13). With Lapeña’s timeout, Famila once again focused on attacking under the basket, tying the game at 15. Shepard put the Italians +2 and, despite Lola’s draw, the points from Zanardi and Andrè put Schio ahead (21-17). Shortly before the end of the first quarter, a 2+1 from Quevedo brought our team back closer, but Zandalasini took advantage of the space to score at will (23-20).
Once again, Spar surprised in the opening period to change the dynamics of the scoreboard (Carter’s triple and Carol’s entry, 23-25). But Zandalasini’s offensive responsibility and Shepard’s recovery and finishing put the Orange team ahead again (30-25). Despite the instructions, Conde’s triple and André’s free throw extended the half to 11 to 0 (34-25). With the home team at its best, Carol’s long-range shot calmed the pace, but the bonus and, consequently, Famila’s free throws maintained the advantage (42-33). Spar pressed hard to get back into the game, and the verticality in attack led Spar to score from the personal line, placing them only three points behind (43-40). Zanardi’s final action put the home team +5; Íñiguez looked for one last move, but Canella’s shot was missed (45-40).
The fourth quarter started with the same dynamic, with Spar surprising the pace of Quevedo (45-46). The joy was short-lived, as Conde and Shepard’s points put the locals ahead again (49-46). With Laksa’s triple (54-50), the Italians gained momentum to impose a 13-3 run, leading the score (63-53). Spar Girona managed to slow down the local pace from the personal line, but Conde’s triple and André’s final play put the maximum (70-58).
In the last quarter, the second chances have maintained the scoring rhythm of the locals, maintaining the advantage (76-65). The Girona team has made attempts to approach, but the baskets of Quevedo, Guerrero and Klara have been immediately answered (80-72). The offensive rebound of Keys at 1:20 to the end has led to Conde to score from long distance (83-72). Íñiguez has looked for a solution to achieve the average and Bibby has not missed the entry (83-74). Having said that, the final basket of Shepard has placed the final 85 to 74.
