The match started with a great success from the locals, both in attack and defence, which has caused the Galicians to start the match with a score of 10-3. Faced with these defensive mismatches, Aíto had to call a key time-out to change the team’s dynamics. Thanks to the improvement in the two baskets, the white-and-red have equalized the score to end the first quarter 20-20.

The second part was marked by a start with a lot of rhythm, transitions and little static play. The defensive intensity has increased in the paint and, accompanied by a good percentage from the line of 6.75, the Girona players have put themselves up 7 at the equator of the second quarter. Río Breogán wanted to answer this part of the visitors, but Básquet Girona ended the first half with a figure that marked Girona’s success outside: more than half of the points were scored from the three-point line (33- 39).

At the exit of the changing rooms, the local trebles that did not enter the first half did so and brought the Galicians close to the scoreboard. The Girona players, however, punished in the transitions to stay ahead of the electronic. The game turned into an exchange of baskets, and the two teams disputed the dominance of the score during the third quarter, which ended with Río Breogán dominating thanks to a 70% success rate in the three-pointer ( 64-59).

The last quarter started with a good partial performance by the locals, who placed with a +13. The Girona tried to get closer, but thanks to the charge in the offensive rebound, Río Breogán maintained the advantage. Aíto opted for pressure all over the court and the Girona players forced a series of mistakes from the locals that brought them close to the scoreboard. The Galicians, however, recovered and ended up winning the match (92-70).

POST-Match STATEMENTS:

Aíto García Reneses:

“Congratulations to Breogán because they played a great game, we didn’t have enough energy to compete in the game. The only thing left for us is to tighten our fists and improve.”
