Basketball Girona starts losing against Unicaja Malaga at Martín Carpena (90-73)

The Girona team started the match better, with good defensive activity and running on the counterattack (2-8) but the entry of Kalinoski and Pérez from Malaga has oxygenated the game of the rival team. A 17-2 run has turned the tide of the first quarter. In the second period, the locals have managed to extend the advantage to 15 points after a triple by Kendrick Perry (29-14) but the Girona team has closed the gap with an 8-0 run including the two triples that they have hit in the first half (39-27).

In the second half, Unicaja started by imposing the pace of the game from the outside line, but the Girona team managed to reduce the difference to ten points with a basket from Durham (57-48). A final Malaga run increased the deficit to seventeen points, the same distance it reached at the end (90-73).

Katsikaris: “It’s a team that plays by heart and knows when to hurt you. It was a very good test to see how the league works for the new players, we are under construction and we have to learn from the things we did wrong.”
