Basketball Girona lost to Murcia in a closely fought game (93-87). Both teams had their moments in a match marked by equality on the court. Biram Faye, Olaf Schaftenaar and Pep Busquets have been the leaders in scoring.
The first quarter was developed in thick attacks (9-12, 7′) and dominance in the Murcia rebound (10 for 5 Girona). The local initiative in this aspect (39 to 25) was one of the causes of the final victory. After an initial half of 0-5, the team from Girona has again placed five points ahead (10-15) but Murcia has made a partial of 8-0 that has put them ahead (18-15).
In the second quarter, the game maintained the tone of the first minutes, with the team from Girona regaining the advantage on the scoreboard. After a basket by Diego Kapelan (26-28), the visiting team chained a partial 0-12 that catapulted them to the electronic before the half (28-40).
Murcia’s response reached the rematch with a 15-4 run that brought them back into the game. The early stage was then re-established, with Murcia going a point behind but never in front. Two consecutive actions have minimally stretched Girona’s lead (51-58) before Murcia’s triple (54-58).
The balance was maintained in the game until the end, with Diego Kapelan causing overtime from the perimeter (77-77). In extra time, the management of Álex Hernández, with 13 of the team’s 16 points, was key to the outcome in favor of the locals (93-87).
Statements by Carlos Marco:
“Congratulations to Murcia for the fair and deserved victory because we did not go out to win the game. They had more desire to win than us. At the beginning we entered with doubts and had a very good quarter. Surely it would have changed if we had hit the two or three we had alone to go twenty. But the plan was not to hit more than Murcia but to defend better.”
“It could have fallen on one side or the other but today my team, me first because I didn’t know how to pass them on, we weren’t the team that attacked the rebounds well. It’s time to keep working.”
