A partial score of 49-22 between the third and fourth period has left Basketball Girona with no options on the court of a Zornotza that has been a stinger
Despite taking the lead at half-time, Básquet Girona never managed to match either the pace or the success proposed by an intractable Zornotza Saskibaloi Taldea in the second half. For the local side, Saah Nimley was the most outstanding (25 points, 7 assists and 32 rating).
The Girona players came out intense at the start of the match and this allowed them to control the electronic during the first few measures (6 – 10 minute 4). However, the irruption of local baseman Saah Nimley has increased the speed of his team and, in an instant, the Basques have taken the lead with a partial score of 9 – 2 (15 – 12 minute 6). Básquet Girona, however, ended the first quarter with a point advantage thanks to the local defensive blunders punished by Berry’s six points (21 – 22 minute 10).
In the second period, the intensity and verticality of the attacks by both teams, led the game to a constant exchange of baskets where Trias and again Niemly, were the most prominent with ten and seven points respectively. In the last three minutes, the team from Girona stole several balls and, with more attention to the defense, went to the break with a four point lead (40 – 44 minute 20).
In the restart, Zornotza came out with a high tempo, with clear ideas and with the Nimley-Bercy-Osakue trio scoring everything they could to inflict a 14-0 half-time score that opened up a significant difference in the score (61 – 49 minute 27) before the last ten minutes.
In the last quarter, the Biscaynes did not take their foot off the pedal and, led by an excellent Saah Nimley in attack and an insurmountable defense by the rest of the players, they left Basketball Girona with no options for a comeback, where only one Willful André Berry responded in a team mentally and physically outmatched by his rival.
The next match will be Saturday March 16 (6:00 p.m.) in Fontajau against Igualatario Cantabria Estela.
