Girona Basketball is close to a comeback in La Laguna in a duel of exchange of blows decided in the final moments (97-94)

The match started at a fast pace and a constant exchange of shots that kept the score even for much of the first half. Despite an adverse start (8-2), Bàsquet Girona reacted quickly with Needham and Pep Busquets , restoring balance in a very offensive first quarter that ended with a slight home advantage (26-21). In the second period, Tenerife struck first to take a ten-point lead (42-32), but Fotis Katsikaris’ team showed its best side in the offensive rebound , clearly dominating this facet (5 to 13 in the half) to stay alive. A basket on the horn by Jaime Fernández cut off Girona’s good momentum just before halftime, leaving the score in a tight spot but with the Canaries still ahead.

In the second half, the Girona team displayed a great defensive attitude, conceding only two points in the first three minutes and culminating the comeback with a three-pointer by Mindaugas Susinskas that put them ahead (61-63). However, a devastating 11-0 run by the Tenerife team opened up a gap again before entering a last quarter of heartbreak. In the decisive stretch, a 0-9 run again adjusted the score (87-84) and Needham responded with character to Scrubb’s success to keep hopes alive until the last second. The final development was decided from the free throw line and, although Minda had the three-pointer in his hands to send the game to overtime, the ball did not go in and the final 97-94 certified a bitter defeat but encouraging for the image shown.
