First Girona Basketball tournament in Metz

The 3x3 team opens its showcase by winning the Frescaty Tour

The third has been defeated. After achieving two runner-up finishes in the first two tournaments that the team contested, the Girona 3×3 Basketball has won the first event of its career in the Frescaty Tour held in Metz. The team from Girona entered the knockout phase as the first group on Saturday afternoon after winning two of the three games in the group phase. The victories were against Rompish (22-6) and Team Antwerp (22-9), the future rival of the semi-final, while the defeat would come against the team that would end up overcoming in the final, the Lowkey Squad (19- 16).

This Sunday’s quarter-finals were played against the African Team, who they beat in an outdoor recital led by Nacho Martín. The team has scored five triples – they count for two points – almost consecutively which has allowed them to generate a significant first margin on the scoreboard. The opposing team managed to close the gap, with good actions inside (14-8), but could not come close to the comeback with agile and effective basketball from Girona. In the semifinals, the team faced Team Antwerp, who added the first differences from the outside shot with a first maximum of five points (1-6) and a second of seven (3-10). However, the team has recovered very well from the adverse result with an incredible 12-1 run led by the points – five in a row when the team was behind on the scoreboard – from Javi Vega and the outside contribution of Sergi Pino has able to become a finalist when time ran out (15-12). 

In the grand final, the opponent was the Lowkey Squad in a competitive match despite having the pace and the advantage on the scoreboard for most of the match (21-17). The opponent was the first to take the lead but the team from Girona took the test with a triple from Sergi Pino (6-4), the first two points of a dynamic of almost seven consecutive by the Catalan player that decided the final (12-5). The opponent recovered with a partial 5-10 that put them two points behind, but with the end of the game neck down, the team was firm in defense and knew how to give profitability to individual actions to take the club’s first title.
