Basketball Girona beat Igualatorio Cantabria Estela in a decisive first quarter

The senior has won the Igualatorio Cantabria Estela at the Palacio de Deportes de Santander in the first meeting of the second phase (54-74). A first period with six triples and a partial 16-32 generated a wide advantage that led to the victory. The points of Albert Sàbat (17) and the offensive and defensive contributions of Antonio Hester and Gerard Sevillano have had a special influence on the choral victory.

The first quarter was the difference for the senior to get the first victory of the second phase. An even first few minutes led to a festival of triples (6), with Albert Sàbat a prominent protagonist, author of four. The good momentum ended with a partial 0-16 that increased the difference to 22 points (8-30, 8′). Two local three-pointers have minimally reduced a first part of Girona’s red color, both in attack and in defense (16-32).

In the second period, the defenses imposed more on the offensive rhythm of the two teams but the visiting team extended the advantage mainly due to their performance in the rear. Seven of the seventeen points from the Girona team have come from Menno Dijkstra in about ten minutes in which the Cantabrians have accumulated nine points (25-49).

In the restart, the senior was able to maintain the distance in favor of the scoreboard, especially from the defense, making it difficult for the local team to drop from the twenty point deficit. A partial score of 29-25 in the last twenty minutes made the final score 54-74, with which the team from Girona added the first victory of the second phase.

The next game for the seniors is on Wednesday, March 4 in Fontajau against Juaristi ISB (20:00).
