Girona exhibition in Fontajau against Valencia Basket

Spar Girona | Sunday, 21 December 2025

Spar Girona has imposed its superiority in Fontajau against Valencia Basket in a duel of the high part ( 96-68 ). With a very solid staging, defensive intensity and a high offensive rhythm, the Girona team has controlled the match since the first quarter and has progressively expanded the advantage on the scoreboard, showing clear authority against one of the most demanding rivals in the competition.

A fast-paced start for Fontajau, pressing from the first minute and giving the players dedication and passion to impose a 9-3 lead on the scoreboard, with baskets from Carol, Jocyte and Coulibaly. Burgos quickly stopped the game to lead the orange team, and the rhythm of both teams stagnated in attack, with the defenses playing a leading role. That said, with the success from the personal line and great defensive pressure, the team reactivated, extending the lead on the scoreboard (21-6). With the Girona bonus, Valencia managed to get closer to Fam (21-9), but Leticia’s free throws and Mariam’s basket put the score at +15 (25-10).

At the start of the second quarter, the orange team came closer, this time with more force, after a 2-8 run, which forced Íñiguez to stop the match (27-18). Juste and Coulibaly calmed the waters and, although Fam took over Valencia’s offensive responsibility, a three-pointer from Bibby once again stopped the game for Burgos (36-22). Buenavida and Fam quickly closed the gap again (38-27), but the success from the personal line reduced the visiting pressure (44-29). The final attacks, focused under the basket, had a clear protagonist: Lola Pendande. The Andalusian made efforts to increase the advantage, placing the team with a margin of 20 points (49-29).

The change in the dressing room changed the dynamics at the start of the second half, with Valencia coming out on top with Buenavida and Fam (49-33). That said, after the unsportsmanlike visitors, Spar Girona started a key half to distance themselves even further, with Carol’s success as the main protagonist to impose an 11-3 lead (60-36). After the Valencian timeout, both teams exchanged baskets, slightly extending Girona’s lead (72-44).

With more to come, the Girona team did not take their foot off the accelerator and Leticia’s basket, Bibby’s triple and Lola’s basket put the score at +30 (79-49). Despite the visiting timeout, the Girona team did not give up and Bibby and Lola, both from long distance, made the game crazy (89-53). With Fontajau excelling, the Girona team ended up winning by 96 to 68, sending Amihere off with honors in the post-celebration.
