The senior overcomes Hestia Menorca in the opening game in Fontajau (86-65) and is one of the four undefeated in the East group of LEB Plata

The Girona Basketball senior has started his journey in the LEB Plata with determination. This evening, in the first engagement in Fontajau this season, they beat Hestia Menorca (86-65) in a match that they almost always dominated, thanks to their intensity and defensive work. The result leaves them as one of the four teams in the East group to have won the first two games.

The staging of Quim Costa’s team has already been quite a statement of intent, with the team very plugged in and dominating the rebound in both rings. Initially, the Balearics would resist the heat (17-15 at the end of the first quarter), but they would start to give ground from the second, seeing themselves unable to keep up with the rhythm or contain the Girona attacks which, in Ecuador, they had Andre Berry as the top scorer (8 points). Back in the locker room, Básquet Girona would put a more defensive gear -Neither Richaud Pack nor Jan Orfila, references in the rival, have ever felt comfortable-, which would allow them to widen the difference to +15 (50-35, 24′). The fans who came to Fontajau enjoyed the vertical game of the team. Little by little, Hestia Menorca has been giving up more ground while the locals, with a very active rotation of the ten players, have never taken their foot off the accelerator.

The next day of LEB Plata is this weekend. The Girona team will visit the Arcos Albacete Basket court at noon on Sunday (12:15 p.m.).

*Quim Costa’s assessment:

“Tactically, we still have to improve. Now what I demand above all is intensity for the 40 minutes. There are moments when we achieve it and, in others, it is difficult for us. In the first half, there was equality and, when we took ten or fifteen points in the second half, they have sunk a little”

“We can’t fall into the mistake of relaxing now that we’re 2-0 up. We have to maintain our level and continue to grow as a team. There are aspects where we’re still far from where we’d like to be”
