The lights go out and the curtain rises on LEB Or. Four years after starting to walk, the first team of Básquet Girona will debut on Sunday in Fontajau in the second category of state basketball against HLA Alicante (18:00). The team from Alicante finished in a creditable fourth position last season, after being promoted from LEB Plata, and will step foot again in Fontajau almost two years later (December 8, 2018).

The team coached by Pedro Rivero, who will inaugurate the third season at the head of the technical team, maintains six members of the squad from last season: Guillem Arcos, Pedro Llompart, Ignacio Díaz, Alejandro Galán, Justin Pitts and José Francisco Ortega. These last four were already part of the LEB Silver block that went up to LEB Gold.

In the pre-season, the Valencian team played five games, four of them against LEB Or rivals. He won four matches (Covirán Granada, CB Jaris, TAU Castelló and ZTE Real Canoe) and lost one (CB Almansa).

Statements by Carlos Marco:

We want to be as competitive as possible in every game. Enjoy every match we have but enjoy for 40 minutes giving everything. To do your best throughout the game, from the first to the last face-off: that’s the challenge.”

“Last year they had an inside player with a lot of influence in their game and this year they have a more complete squad with more experience. The talent of Justin Pitts, the know-how of Llompart… a well-compensated and wider staff.”

Statements Albert Sàbat:

“We really want to receive the support of our people, to be able to give them all our effort on the court and for them to enjoy a good match.”
