Básquet Girona still faces the final stretch of the regular season with optimism after the triumphant work against Zornotza last week. The Girona team had a good day, as the four teams ahead of them and who are fighting for a place in the promotion play-offs, lost. So, the team coached by Àlex Formento is two wins away from fifth place, the last with a ticket to the final stage of promotion to LEB Or.

Now, the Catalans’ next opponent is Igualatario Cantabria who, despite not being at their best, will give the Girona team a lot of battle. In fact, in the first round, the Santander team only lost by 3 points difference (66 – 63) to Fontajau. One of the keys to the first duel between both teams was the control of the rebound and the lost balls forced on the opponent. The men coached by David Mangas are the team that captures the fewest rebounds per match (32) and the one that commits the most turnovers (14). In the first match, the Girona team managed to score many points in second options and run the counterattack due to the 19 losses of possession by their opponent.

Just like in the match a month and a half ago, the Santander team  will base their game on their interior pairing of Andre Lazar Norris Jr (12.8 points per game) and Placide Nakidjim (13.8 points, 6.7 rebounds and 16.4 rating), and also on the wrist of American guard William Thomas Jr (14.3 points per game).

*Alex Formento assessment:

They are an opponent who is in a similar situation to us, but has players with a lot of experience in the division or in higher competitions. He will be very eager to beat us in front of his fans. They will surely give us a very tough game “.
