Spar Girona opens the 25/26 season this Saturday at the Ingeniería Ambiental CAB Estepona court (5:30 p.m., live on AS ‘ YouTube channel). Roberto Íñiguez’s team begins the competition by visiting a recently promoted team.

The rival

CAB Estepona has built a squad with experience and talent. Argentine point guard Melisa Gretter is the driving force of the team and one of the benchmarks on the court; American forward Madison Conner, who has already shone in the preseason with games of more than 20 points, brings outside scoring and dynamism; and in the paint, the presence of Sika Koné, an international center with physical ability and mastery of the rebound, stands out. Along with players like Leia Dongue and Kiara Leslie, the block offers depth and versatility.

Estepona is making their debut after a demanding preparation. They played in the Copa Vive Internacional, where they beat Castors Braine (61-72) with Conner, Dongue and Muhate as top scorers, and fell narrowly to Lointek Gernika (62-75), showing competitiveness until the final stretch. They have also overcome rivals such as La Salle Melilla (73-69), confirming that, despite being newcomers, they are a team with weapons to stand up from day one.

The good feelings

“The team has continued to train well, we are on the right track, despite knowing that it will be a difficult match. Every season the first matches are difficult because now people are free and without pressure,” highlighted Roberto Íñiguez.

The Girona team will be looking for their first win of the 25/26 season on a track that, despite Estepona’s debut in the category, promises to be demanding due to the quality and depth of an Andalusian squad that wants to become strong from day one in the LF Endesa.
