Spar Girona | Tuesday, 14 October 2025

Spar Girona face one of the most demanding matches of the season this Wednesday: visiting the court of the current European champion, USK Praha. Roberto Íñiguez predicts “a match at the highest level” and emphasizes that he will ask the team “to be themselves, not to be arrogant and to do their job like in all matches, regardless of the opponent”.

The rival

The Czechs come into the match in great form. In addition to having lifted the European Super Cup after defeating ESBVA (77-86), in the first round of the EuroLeague Women they confidently defeated Tango Bourges Basket (55-77) at home, dominating all quarters and showing enormous solidity in both attack and defense.

With a squad full of talent, in the first match players such as Valeriane Ayayi (21 points and 7 rebounds), Janelle Salaun (14 points) and Pauline Astier, a game director with 8 assists, stood out. Beyond the names, their strong point is the collective play and constant intensity. Íñiguez is clear: “Prague is a very good team, which is playing very well. They won the European Super Cup and won very well in Bourges, with a lot of solidity. They know what they are doing at all times, both up front and behind, with a lot of intensity. We have to continue doing our job”.

The team

Spar Girona arrives at the event after stringing together three consecutive victories: against CAB Estepona and Baxi Ferrol in the LF Endesa, and in their European debut against VBW Arka Gdynia . The Girona team faces the trip with ambition and the clear will to compete from their identity.

Klara Holm also remarked on the level of the match: “First we have to know that it will be a very complicated match. They are the champions of the EuroLeague Women. Prague has incredible players. We have to be ourselves and play our basketball.”
