Round victory in Fontajau

Spar Girona | Wednesday, 08 April 2026

Spar Girona have found their best version in Fontajau with a resounding victory over Movistar Estudiantes. From an overwhelming start (20-9) to the offensive recital of Mariam Coulibaly —author of 32 points and cheered by the pavilion—, Roberto Íñiguez’s team have dominated all facets of the game to prevail by 88-58.

Great first quarter for Spar Girona, responding in defense and clearly prevailing in scoring, adding from short and long distance (triples by Quevedo and Carol) to impose a partial of 20 to 9. With the timeout, Estudiantes recovered sensations in attack, but the second Girona unit maintained the difference (26-17).

Despite Carol’s triple, the miscue in front of the basket and the points from Ezeigbo and Stanacev led Íñiguez to stop the clash (29-22). Girona’s reaction was not long in coming and, with a 9-2 run, they increased their lead again (38-24). With Estudiantes in the lead and an upward offensive dynamic, Spar shot the score to 50-31 at halftime.

Unlike the first half, in the second half the pace took longer to get going, but little by little Spar got stronger again, first with Klara’s triple and then with Mariam’s points (62-36). The match then turned into an exchange of blows, with Quevedo and Carolina’s points standing out to make it 67 to 43.

In the last quarter, Spar came out with the fifth gear engaged, imposing an 8-2 set where Klara and Coulibaly’s points stood out (75-45). After the bench instructions, Movistar recovered with Buhner’s triple, but Mariam’s actions raised it to 32 points and she was cheered on by Fontajau (32 points, 86-53), Spar Girona prevailing over Estudiantes by 88-58.
