Fernando San Emeterio’s press conference highlighted several key points regarding the preparation of the 2025-2026 season. The sports director spoke about the composition of the squad, emphasizing the desire to maintain the line of work initiated the previous year and the importance of the human factor when choosing players:

“From the very beginning we were very clear that we wanted to continue the work started during the second half of last season, and that the new additions were players with a real desire to defend the Bàsquet Girona shirt. We believe we have achieved this and we are very satisfied with the configured squad.”

Regarding the new signings, San Emeterio has given a very positive assessment of both their sporting profile and
the attitude:

“Mark Hughes comes from the LEB with great enthusiasm to compete in the Endesa League; he can do many things, but fundamentally he is a shooter. Derek Needham is a player with experience in the elite and with a great desire to play in the ACB. Otis Livingston represented a market opportunity that we were able to take advantage of, and both Nikola Maric and Pepe Vildoza have clearly expressed their desire to compete in the league.”

He also detailed what the team’s identity will be this season and what type of game the fans will be able to see in Fontajau:

“We are betting on a high pace, opening the field and taking advantage of the outside shot, attacking the offensive rebound and maintaining a proactive defense. We started this line of play last season and we want to continue working in this direction. The team has been built by the hand of Moncho Fernández, with whom we have worked side by side throughout the summer.”

Regarding the work dynamics, San Emeterio has highlighted the importance of daily consistency:

“The most important thing is the day-to-day work, which is what we improved during the second half of last season. The connection between teammates and the competitive spirit of the team are key, and in difficult moments they must be united and fight. The ACB League is a highly demanding competition, and it will be the details that will make the difference between a victory or a defeat.”

Finally, he highlighted the players’ prior preparation and their adaptation to the club:

“Many players have worked during the summer at the Fontajau pavilion, improving individual technique and other aspects that are difficult to work on during the season. The new additions have arrived in advance to adapt to the club and their teammates. We believe that this has been a success and that it will help us start the season with strength and solidity.”
