Solid triumph for Spar against Gernika

Spar Girona has defeated Lointek Gernika in Fontajau with a complete game. The Girona team imposed the pace of play and extended their lead with a very solid third quarter, which ended up deciding the match and allowed them to manage the lead until the end ( 102-70 ).
Juste Jocyte and Ángela Salvadores took the offensive responsibility in the early stages of the game, scoring 7 and 8 points respectively (11-12). That said, Mariam’s contribution under the basket (10 points) and Carol’s triple were the difference for Girona, stopping Fernández at the halfway point of the first quarter (20-12). The visiting team’s reaction was not long in coming and, with the offensive rebound in control, the Basques closed the gap with a 4-7 run (24-19).
The change of quarter meant the debut of Merceron. Having said that, the constant exchange of baskets, where Vonleh stood out, led Roberto to call a timeout (28-27). The reaction was immediate, with Mariam dominating the zone and Bibby from long distance, again differentiating Spar (36-27). The reply in the final stretch led Lointek to a small reaction led by Jankovic (38-31), but the defensive pressure and the baskets by Klara allowed Spar to slightly increase the income (49-38).
Coup of authority
With an upward momentum, the passage through the locker rooms confirmed the great moment of Spar Girona, imposing a 16-7 run to put a hit on the board and differentiate themselves (65-45). Bibby and Salvadores exchanged three-pointers (69-53) and, then, the speed of the Girona team punished the defense of the Basques (73-53). Shortly before the end, Chloe’s entry and three-pointer put the lead at +22 (78-56).
The difference in the clash did not stop the Girona team, who extended their lead with points from Merceron, Ainhoa and Bibby (85-60). With minutes to play, Merceron punished Gernika with a double (89-60), putting the game on hold. Olaeta, from long distance, converted for the visitors, while Merceron scored his tenth point (91-65). Mariam and Carol did not forgive from long distance and Spar Girona won by 102 to 70.
