Spar Girona has added a new victory in Fontajau by defeating Joventut by 68-64 in an intense and demanding duel, marked by constant alternations on the scoreboard and a final stretch of maximum tension. The Girona team has been able to react after the good moment of the visitors in the second half and, with a key run in the third quarter, have regained control of the match to end up managing the advantage in the last minutes.

A timid start in attack for both teams, with the first points coming from the personal line, with Quevedo and Holm as the protagonists (4-0). With Ebo’s basket, Spar Girona activated a very successful half, reaching +8 after Juste’s triple, the actions of Juste and Carter and Canella’s 2+1 (14-6). Lamana led an attempt to approach the visitors, but the success of Bibby, Carol and the final 2+1 by Lola made it 20-12.

Klara Holm’s vertical lead at the start of the second quarter put us +10 in our favor (27-17). With Jocyte’s action, Vizcaíno called a timeout for the visitors, who found a reaction in the clash led by Dembele (33-31), which led to Íñiguez’s save. A turnover then allowed Piera to tie the game (33-33), but Carter responded quickly to put Spar Girona back in front (35-33).

The visitors’ upward momentum continued in the second half and, in fact, Dembele’s action put Penya ahead on the scoreboard (37-39). From there, the Girona team stepped on the accelerator to turn the situation around, imposing a 13-2 run, with six points from Arica, to open up a gap again (50-41). However, Joventut insisted on reducing the gap and was only five points behind at the end of the third quarter (55-50).

The last quarter started well with Lola’s basket, but Dembelé, Lamana and Howard tied the match (57-57). Íñiguez stopped the game midway through the period, and Mariam responded from under the basket (59-57). However, Coulibaly withdrew injured and Pendande came in to replace him. Klara, from the personal line, and Arica with a pass, then extended the lead to 65-57, forcing Vizcaíno to call a timeout. Despite Ebo’s basket, Carter’s three-pointer with 55 seconds left brought some peace to the Girona team (68-60), with another save from the visiting coach. Howard converted the free throws and, with not much margin left, Ebo scored the last basket to make it 68-64.
