Spar Girona’s new triumph in the LF Endesa, the first in Fontajau this season. Roberto Íñiguez’s team put in a solid and convincing performance against Baxi Ferrol, breaking the game from the defense and the offensive rhythm to end up winning with authority (93-62).
Excellent staging by Spar Girona in the first quarter. Roberto Íñiguez’s team started the match in fifth gear, showing a strong and vertical attack and great defensive intensity, stopping Baxi Ferrol in their tracks. In fact, after a triple by Quevedo, Lino López called a timeout in search of solutions (12-2). But the Spar howitzer continued to fuel up, reaching its peak with another triple by Jocyte (22-6). Little by little, Baxi found cracks in the Girona defense and managed to close the gap (26-17), but Amihere’s free throw and Klara’s recovery and finishing have once again widened the lead to +12 (29-17).
While Stolova opened the scoring for Baxi in the second quarter, Lola responded with the first points for Spar Girona (35-21). The Girona team once again imposed their rhythm, with baskets in transition from Amihere and Jocyte that forced the visiting coach to stop the game (39-23). Despite scoring from the free throw line, a mistake in the final stretch led Íñiguez to call a timeout (47-36), and Coulibaly’s final points under the basket left the score at 51-39 at halftime.
The change of pace slowed down the pace of the game for both teams, but gradually Coulibaly’s powerful plays and the outside hits of Jocyte and Mariam herself made it 61-47. The second unit came into the game with force and the baskets of Canella, Laeticia and Ainhoa extended the lead (67-47). The defensive precision stopped the Galicians’ playmaking in its tracks, and the final transitions of Amihere and Ainhoa brought the score to +21 (71-50).
With more to come, Arica Carter took on the offensive weight of the Girona team, scoring a layup and a three-pointer that forced Lino López to stop the game (76-55). With a spectacular block from Amihere, Fontajau exploded and three consecutive actions from Mariam ended the match (82-57), sealing a clear victory for Spar Girona by 93-62.
