For another season, Bàsquet Girona is launching the Mindset Program, an initiative that promotes the English language and sports activity among boys and girls from different schools in the region. This program has the support of CaixaBank and seeks to inspire young people through sport and the practice of English, creating an educational and motivating experience.

This morning, a group of about fifty students from Escola La Farga de Salt, accompanied by boys and girls from a Greek school (2nd Primary School Nea Peramos Attikis) and a Lithuanian school (Kaunas St. Kazimieras), visited the Fontajau pavilion, where they were able to get to know the facilities up close and live a unique experience linked to the world of basketball. During the visit, the participants had the opportunity to talk with the first team players Martinas Geben and Mindaugas Susinskas, who shared with them personal and professional experiences, as well as reflections on teamwork, effort and the values that define elite sport.

The students also took a guided tour of different spaces in the pavilion, discovering its
internal workings and observing first-hand how a facility is prepared to host
professional competitions.

This activity is part of the European project BaskEUball, an initiative co-financed by the Erasmus+ program that integrates sports practice with educational, creative and social inclusion actions.

BaskEUball, a project to “play, include and educate”

BaskEUball is a three-year project that uses basketball as a tool for social inclusion and community cohesion. It is promoted by Escola La Farga de Salt, the University of Girona (UdG), CB Salt and several educational institutions in Lithuania and Greece.

The project seeks to integrate children and young people from vulnerable communities into municipal teams and offer them opportunities for personal and social growth. At the same time, participants connect with art, science, creative technology and English language activities, promoting multidisciplinary learning.

In addition, the initiative promotes digital skills and cultural exchange through virtual meetings and international tournaments held in Spain, Lithuania and Greece, where students can share experiences, discover new European realities and reinforce values such as respect, coexistence and cooperation.

The overall objective of the project is to promote quality education based on active methodologies, democratic values and equal opportunities, while offering tools so that children from disadvantaged backgrounds can grow, learn and participate in community life.
