Last season was the first for the club and our fans in the ACB, and this 2023-24 will be the first for our new mascot. In April, a first consultation was held and, from the proposed ideas, 3 possible candidates have been chosen.
Subscribers, those who have renewed and newcomers, will be able to access a form that will be found in the Girona Basketball App in order to choose what the new mascot will look like. In the form you will find 3 options:
The Cocollona: Have you ever seen a full moon swimming in the Onyar? Cocollona? Legend has it that a novice from the Mercadal convent was unjustly imprisoned by her companions in an underground cell of the convent. He stayed there for many years and because of the darkness and the humidity, scales came out all over his body, until he became a crocodile. But thanks to his purity and holiness, he is made to form beautiful butterfly wings becoming so, the Cocollona, a symbol of the city’s popular culture. For us, the mix of these two animals is synonymous with ambition and perseverance.
The Seagull: The Seagull is a typical Mediterranean animal, witty and a great symbol of freedom. We know, however, that for many of our fans it goes further. It is the representation of a splendid stage of Girona basketball. A look at the past with nostalgia but with a completely renewed image. For us, it means the longing to fly higher and higher.
La Lleona: Legend has it that who wants to be a good Girona and never leave Girona or has come to visit the city and wants to return, he must kiss the lion’s ass. The Leona monument is located at the foot of the stairs of the Church of Sant Feliu, a very strategic point in the old quarter. This legend has become deeply rooted in Girona and is part of the identity of all Gironans. Lionesses are territorial and leaders, good attributes to represent at the club.
The deadline to answer the form will be July 13th and during the following days the final mascot will be presented.
