Laia Palau, sports director of Uni Girona and the Girona Basketball base, also participated in the event
The Councilor of the Presidency, Laura Vilagrà Pons, emphasized yesterday in the Fontajau pavilion that the Government had decided, at the beginning of its mandate, to promote and visualize more women’s sport and ” it is achieving it “. ” We said it would be the legislature for women’s sports and it really is ,” said the councilor during the presentation of the book and the podcast Sports superheroes… with powers like yours . It is a project promoted by the Generalitat developed in two formats. On the one hand, a book, edited by Ara Llibres and which can be found in bookshops, and on the other, a podcast, which can be listened to on the platform of the new Super3, SX3. In the book, ten sports journalists and ten illustrators create ten stories where the protagonists are ten renowned athletes: Alexia Putellas, Aitana Bonmatí, Laia Palau, Kaba Gassama, Anni Espar, Laia Sanz, Ona Carbonell, Núria Picas, Queralt Castellet and Paula Badosa. On the other hand, the podcast, co-produced by Abacus and the Catalan Audiovisual Media Corporation, narrates the ten stories.
A hundred people attended the one that had the presence of one of the protagonists of the book and the podcast, the sports director of Uni Girona and the base of Girona Basketball, Laia Palau. The former player reminded the boys and girls present at the event that basketball “it creates group awareness and intelligence. If in life we were small teams we would do better“. Among these boys and girls were two base teams of the Girona Uni Laia Palau Basketball, who asked the athlete several questions. One of them asked him what his career high had been: “My specialty was not scoring. It was more than enough. One day, however, I ended up scoring 28 points”, said Palau.
For his part, the president of Uni Girona, Cayetano Pérez, remarked that the club ” is a benchmark in its field and we try to attract as many athletes and fans as possible “, while the vice-mayor of the Girona City Council , Quim Ayats, insisted that we must continue to ” be able to visualize women’s sport and break stereotypes “.
Councilor Vilagrà closed the event, which was led by Rac1 journalist Marta Ramon, recalling that ” we have quadrupled aid to women’s sport, but we must continue to allocate more resources to it as a Government “.
The event was also attended by, among others; the general secretary of Sport, Anna Caula, the Government delegate in Girona, Laia Cañigueral and the institutional representative of Girona Basketball, Jordi Barretina.
