The derby is from Girona

Spar Girona won the derby at Cadí La Seu with a solid and hard-fought victory ( 64-82 ), in a match that the Girona team took control of from the first quarter onwards and that they were able to control despite the local attempts to react. The offensive success, the depth of the bench and the rhythm imposed from the defense have allowed the Girona team to add an important victory in an always demanding scenario.

Spar Girona started the match trailing Cadí La Seu, mainly due to Hollingshed’s initial points, and the home team kept their team slightly ahead in the first minutes (9 points, 13-12). That said, the entry of the second unit, with Bibby and Lola as protagonists, marked differences in our favor, placing the advantage at ten points (partial score of 5-15, 15-25).

Chloe’s continued success and the pressure on all court clearly increased the lead on the scoreboard. Cadí tried to stop it, reaching the quarter’s halfway mark in the bonus, but Spar extended their lead again from the free throw (16-36). That said, and despite the points from Mariam and Bibby, the final bonus from the Girona team gave the Urgellense team an opportunity to get closer from the personal line (27-43).

In the second half, the offensive rhythm stalled, and Palma and Aguilar scored for the home team (31-46). Mariam’s points and Klara and Lola’s baskets calmed the match, but Aguilar’s offensive responsibility, Raventós’ control of the rhythm and Niare’s points from the personal line put Cadí at fourteen points (41-55). Again, the match stalled in attack, adding the urgent ones from the personal line with Gonzales (43-55). A great final play culminated by Bibby seemed to slow down the home team’s reaction, but Gonzales’ reply from the triple set the score at 46-58.

Hollingshed set off the alarms with a triple, making it 49-60, but Bibby’s response was immediate (49-63), with Lola immediately scoring from mid-range (49-65). After Isaac’s timeout, Niare and Hollingshed’s actions made it 53-66, but the good dynamics of Bibby and Lola sustained the Girona team (53-70) and then Quevedo and Carol extended the lead (55-74). Isaac stopped the clash again, but the offensive dynamics were maintained until the final 64-82.
