Defeat of Basketball Girona against a rocky Aceitunas Fragata Morón (66-70) after trailing throughout the game

After six consecutive victories, Básquet Girona lost in Fontajau in the first game of 2019 against an intense Morón who always went ahead on the scoreboard. American Taylor Cameron  he was the most outstanding man of the match with 28 rating.

The match did not start well for the Girona players who, in five minutes, were already losing 2-11 and forced Quim Costa to stop the game. However, the Andalusian team remained successful and, with good defenses, prevented Girona from reducing the difference (11 – 20).

In the second quarter, the problems to attack statically and the turnovers – 9 in the first half – continuously harmed the Girona players who, despite taking a step forward in defense, ended the first half thirteen points behind due to a triple in the last second of Aramburu (24 – 37).

At the start of the second half, a two plus one from Sebirumbi gave Antonio López’s team the biggest advantage (24-40), but then came the best minutes of the Girona players. Trias, Cizmic, Sergi Costa, Alzamora… all of them contributed to the 14-0 run in five minutes which allowed the locals to be only two points behind (41-43 minute 26). However, five points from Wright and two from Tanner Omlid stopped the local comeback (43 – 50 minute 30).

In the last period, the game was blocked due to the high intensity of both teams and, this, did not favor a Basketball Girona who, despite always being below the psychological barrier of ten points, did not manage to turn the electronic to an Aceitunas Fragata Morón very solid in his game and reliable from the free kick.

Next week travel to Albacete against a direct rival, Afanion CB Almansa. The match will be played on Saturday the 12th at 7:00 p.m.

“They have dominated from the first moment and, this, has always made us go tow. Although we had good minutes in the second half to be able to turn the score around, the defensive errors and the uncertainty did not allow us to overturn the result”.

“We didn’t go out with the right mentality. When we wanted to react, it was already too late. They have beaten us deservedly”.
