The Malaga team started with more energy, securing the rebound and accumulating possessions at a fast pace. After the Girona team scored two three-pointers in a row, from Otis and Pep, a 7-0 run would establish the first local advantage (16-10, 6′). Two more three-pointers from Girona would reduce the gap in favor of the Malaga team, which reached the end of the first quarter five points up (23-18).

In the second period Malaga showed more intensity and added a ten-point advantage, in which Girona recovered with a three-pointer by Pepe Vildoza. The Girona team had the opportunity to get within three points on two occasions but ended up paying for it with a 7-0 home run through the dominance of the rebound and the paint (44-31). A 2-8 run with a three-pointer by Mark Hughes at the buzzer brought Girona back into the game (46-39).

Despite the good initiative from Malaga in the second half, the Girona team adjusted their defense better and in attack caused good fouls that put the Andalusian team in the bonus early, allowing them to get within four points. However, in Malaga’s most irregular moment, the rival managed to connect positive actions and put the score back at -13 (64-51). Although the Girona team would reach 74-68 on the scoreboard, a 21-3 run punished them excessively (95-71).
