| Saturday, 07 March 2020

The municipal sports hall Lydia Valentín will be the stage for the match that will face Básquet Girona against Cat&Rest Intragas-Clima CDP on Sunday (18:30), corresponding to the third day of the second phase. And the fact is that the team from Girona has not known defeat in this promotion phase, winning their first two games, the last one against Juaristi. The team from Ponferrá has not yet managed to prevail over its two rivals, but in the first phase it offered great solidity and achieved a commendable fifth position.

It’s not a coincidence. The Ponferrada team has men like SeanMc Donnell, the player most used by David Barrio by far (744 min.), in addition to being the top scorer (362 p.), second top rebounder (82) and the best rated ( 408). The other offensive weapon is Rafael Casanova who, with McDonnell, were the top two scorers in the last game against Hestia. The Spanish player is the team’s second best scorer and second rebounder as well. Otherwise, Luis Ferrando is the engine of the locals, being the top assister (60) and always providing the necessary fluency in every play.

*Menno Dijkstra statements:

“We prepare for this game like any other but it’s a little bit different because it’s three games in eight days. The practice is less and the focus is more on the tactical aspect. We feel good about playing the game on Sunday. If we play the our basketball, I’m sure we’ll be fine.”

“They are a good team. They compete very hard with demanding basketball. They have strong inside players and American outside players. We will try to compete as much as possible to not make things easy.”

“We treat every match in the same way even if we have a good or bad dynamic. We train with the same purpose every day, practicing the same actions to prepare for the next game.”
