The senior wins at El Prat after a decisive last quarter

Básquet Girona beat Club Básquet Prat in a key victory (73-83). The local team had the initiative during the first three periods but the last one was Girona with 17-32 of the partial. Gerard Sevillano with double figures (15 points and 10 rebounds) and a brilliant Robert Cosialls (14 points and 22 ratings) were the protagonists of the decisive last ten minutes.

The match started with intensity, with five consecutive points from Albert Sàbat that overturned the initial Potablava basket. The player from Llagostera has been the visiting offensive reference, being the executor of 11 of the team’s 19 points in the first quarter. The base’s influence in scoring and the direction of the game has been broken by a Prat that has always been ahead of the scoreboard after Girona’s initial advantage, until reaching a difference of 7 points in favor -16-9 – before ending the half with a Herbert Graham bomb (22-19).

An individual play by Mor Niang put the Girona team ahead again in the second minute of the second quarter (21-23). The pressure all over the court from the visiting team had an effect on the home side, who only managed to score eight points until two minutes before the break. A 7-0 run turned the score upside down in favor of the potablava and sent them to the locker room ahead again (39-33).   

Five consecutive points from Saturday started the scoring in the second half and put the senior within one point. Girona’s defense has again been very intense and effective for most of the third period. With seven points against in six minutes, a counterattack concluded with Antonio Hester’s magic pass from Sàbat has turned the score in favor of the team from Girona (46-47). Three potablava three-pointers in three minutes have put El Prat ahead before the last quarter (58-51).  

Although El Prat fired first, Girona responded with a partial 0-12 that catapulted them to +5, with not only the victory but the average won. The team from Praten has equalized but the senior has hit the table again with a score of 0-8 (65-75, 38′). With the victory almost assured, the defense adjusted and, despite the rival’s eight points, Gerard Sevillano finished an immaculate fourth quarter with 32 points (73-83).     

The next game for the seniors is next Saturday, February 15 in Fontajau against Arcos Albacete Basket (8 p.m.).
