Spar Girona | Sunday, 22 March 2026
Spar Girona defeated Valencia Basket at the Roig Arena by 71 to 74 in a match that they controlled from the first quarter thanks to Mariam’s inside shot, but that was adjusted in the final stretch after the local reaction. The Girona team managed the key moments in the last minutes to secure a great victory at home.
With the initial exchange (6-5), the constant attacks under the basket of Spar Girona, where the points of Mariam were the protagonists, have placed the 8 to 15, stopping Valencia in the confrontation. The break has not stopped the Girona game plan or the rhythm of Mariam, who has scored 11 points at the end of the first quarter (8-19).
Valencia tried to reverse the situation by intensifying the offensive rhythm, but, on the contrary, Spar Girona not only sustained the local reaction, but also increased the advantage at the equator of the second quarter with the points of Arica, Lola and Juste (17-32). Ruben’s instructions were effective, certifying a 7-0 quarter and stopping Roberto’s shock (24-32). Carol’s success from long distance helped to place a quarter of 0 to 10 (24-42), but two final 2+1s by the oranges placed the score at 29 to 42.
With the instructions of the half, Valencia has radically changed its image, placing itself only five points behind after a basket by Romero (45-50). The 2+1 by Carol and the shots by Ainhoa have maintained the difference (47-54). Shortly before the end, and with Lola sent off for technical foul, Anderson has placed the oranges only 4 points behind, but the triple on the horn by Merceron has closed the quarter with a +7 Girona (52-59).
Klara’s triple and Ainhoa’s mid-range basket stopped the game for Rubén with 8 minutes to go (52-64). With the instructions, Valencia improved with Buenavida, bringing the home team closer on the scoreboard and stopping Roberto’s shot (63-68). Guerrero’s actions kept the lead, but Romero’s 2+1 put the home team within just 1 point (71-72), pausing the game again with 48.3 seconds left. The play had no effect, but Carol’s defensive rebound in Valencia’s action gave the Girona team a breather. Then, the home team fouled Klara and the Swede didn’t miss the free throws, stopping Burgos with 4.1 seconds left (71-74). Romero’s shot on the horn fell short and Spar won at the Roig Arena by 71 to 74.
